In 1948, Clarence Blakeslee left Waltz Hotz Blow Pipe Company to start Rockford Sheet Metal in the basement of his home. Clarence did work for Wolverine World Wide Company and others but added the installation of furnaces to his new business. As business grew over the years, there were several moves: Courtland St to Bridge St, then to Main St which housed Blakeslee Home Service Heating and Company.

Our Growth Story
The building had to be remodeled and vehicles purchased to get the company off the ground. An ultra-smart remodeling job was done to the front of the building.

At this time, appliances, lawn mowers, new kitchens, aluminum siding, and LP gas were also sold.
Eight years after establishing his company, Clarence became the President of the Grand Rapids Heating Association. At that time, the small company had ten employees, along with his two sons Rodd and Neil. The company installed 150 heating plants per year.
Our Owners Relationship With the Former U.S. President
Clarence was fortunate enough to grow his relationships in the West Michigan community to include individuals such as Gerald R. Ford Jr., who eventually became the 38th President of the United States.
In one letter to Clarence, Gerald R. Ford stated:
July 30, 1957
Mr. Clarence C. Blakeslee,
Dear Mr. Blakeslee,
With great pleasure, I read in the Grand Rapids Press that you have recently been re-elected President of the Grand Rapids Heating Association.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend to you my sincere congratulations and to wish you and the other re-elected officers another successful and pleasant tenure.
With friendly personal regards, I am
Gerald R. Ford, Jr., m.c.
